WTC? WTF?

Too soon?

Several years ago I was explaining to someone why I loathed Pearl Harbor so. The chief reason I cited—aside from the stale, dead-eyed acting; the flat, indentured characters; the predictable, labored dialogue; the patent historical inaccuracies; and just the fact that Bruckheimer's name was all over it—was that I was sorely nonplussed that Hollywood would use one of the greatest American tragedies of all time as a mere vehicle for its fatuous, ill-written romance. In fact, as a society who positively and fiducially reinforces the concept of cookie-cutter thinking, and having been imbued by the bulging success of Titanic, we created Pearl Harbor before a word of its "screenplay" had been written.

I asked how, if in thirty or so years, he would feel if Jerry Bruckheimer Jr. used the events of September 11 as a backdrop for some harlequin romance.

Presently I digress.

Directed by Oliver Stone, it is not likely that World Trade Center will be used in such a defamatory fashion. It is clear, however, that we may expect some subtly reproachful political commentary interspersed throughout. Certainly if there is one director known for not mixing politics and cinema, it is Oliver Stone.

More to the point, doesn't it seem a little too soon to immortalize September 11 as a latent summer blockbuster hit? I mean, a decade seems to be more of a respectable buffer, but maybe they figure Nick Cage won't be up for it by then. Who knows?

Is it just me?

P.S. Lance Bass finally admitted what I've been trying to tell people since the inception of N'Sync.

Keep reaching for that rainbow, buddy.

i don't think time is an issue. most people have forgotten that we're at war against mass murderers. They need to be reminded.
My only concern is Oliver Stone, who blamed the cataclysmic failure that was ALEXANDER on George Bush.

I guess I'll have to throw out my "I 'heart' Lance Bass" T-Shirt.

I just hope Nick Cage gets to look some terrorists in the eye and say, "Take your hands off the bunny."
