I feel it's a fair generalization to say all celebrities are slaves to trends.
In the 90's it became fashionable for big-time celebrities to do voice work in animated films, and more recently video games. Remember that whole Hurricane Katrina thing? Bam. Celebrities all over it. Another trend I've seen many celebrities attempting to attach themselves to is writing children's books. That's right. Jamie Lee Curtis, Billy Crystal, Jerry Seinfeld, John Lithgow, Will Smith, John Travolta--even Leann Rimes is getting in on the action.
And can you blame them?
Acting and singing simply takes too much work. So these persons of note saw an overcrowded marketplace and sought to cash in on the novelty of their name by writing a 30-40 word book for kids. In the same wise as rushing to garner support for national tragedies, penning children's literature makes these "beloved" icons appear loving and compassionate when, in many cases, they are actually writing at their highest level, attempting to pour out the next great American novel.
At any rate, here are a few future best-sellers that are set to hit bookstore bookshelves this summer:
"Bugs Under My Skin!!"
by Nick Nolte
"Scientology and Other Fairy Tales: A Child's Guide to Religion"
by Tom Cruise
"Oops, I Did It Again: 10 Ways to Forgive Your Mommy for Multiple Child Endangerment Cases"
by Britney Spears
"I am a Monster! Buy My Book or I'll Kill Your Kitten"
by Oprah Winfrey
"Come With Me to La-La Land"
by Paula Abdul
